There are a few pieces of gear that I’ve grown to rely upon, and Beyerdynamic’s DT 770 Pro (80 Ohms) headphones are among them. While I generally don’t use them when listening for enjoyment, I’ve found them to be an indispensable tool for monitoring, mic positioning and mix evaluation. I won’t write a complete review (there’s a much more thorough one here), but suffice to say they should be at the top of your list if you’re in the market for a new set of cans. Here’s why I like them:
- They are comfortable to wear for long periods of time
- Their frequency response isn’t hyped
- They are revealing in the sub-250Hz and 7kHz+ ranges
- They provide enough isolation to walk in the live room, move mics around and actually hear the difference
