Taking note of positive reviews, I recently purchased a Telefunken M80. Aside from looking great, this robust cardioid dynamic presents excellent rejection, predictable off-axis response and a silky top end that cuts through without being abrasive. As I do mostly live recording in a 24′ x 24′ room, those characteristics enhance my ability to control and work with drum bleed. And while I’ve only been able to put it through vocal trials thus far, the mic seems promising for other sources, such as snare and guitar cabs. Here are some videos.
First verse kicks in around 1:30.
A couple other notes. I’ve taken to using our Roland keyboard amp with an SM7b for bass, which is what you’re hearing on White Rabbits. Also, as I’m working on developing my ear for mastering, the audio in both of those videos is the live board mix, processed ITB with several plug-ins mentioned in a previous post. More on that later.
Both bands have recently released new albums. Great, friendly people, so check them out!
